University of Leicester Centre for Medicine to be the Largest Passivhaus Building in the UK

Once completed the new Centre for Medicine will be the largest building in the UK built to the Passivhaus standard, this means that the building will use very little additional energy for heating or cooling.  Passivhaus design concentrates on the fabric and construction of the building, the picture right shows the curtain walling being constructed under strict factory conditions off-site to ensure that quality standards for insulation and fittings are retained.  The walls will be delivered as units and lifted into place by the cranes.  To find out more about Passivhaus visit the Passivhaus Trust website.

Kingspan ESB Joint Venture To Unlock £320M Cost Saving Potential Of Solar Pv For Northern Ireland Businesses

Funded Solar solution removes final barrier to generation of cheaper, greener energy
Northern Ireland’s renewable energy industry received a significant boost this week with the announcement that Kingspan ESB, a joint venture between Kingspan, a global leader in high performance building technologies, and ESB, Ireland’s largest energy company, has launched a new Funded Solar energy solution.

The fully-funded solar solution will enable Northern Ireland businesses to benefit from a potential £320 million electricity cost savings over the next 25 years (or £5.6 million each year), supported by significantly improved sustainability and environmental credentials. The new photovoltaic (PV) energy generation offering, will now be available to the local business community without the investment normally required in the capital outlay, installation or maintenance of a PV system.

First up in the #AIMtoWIN 45K Challenge - The Merseyvend Halewood 5K

The first 5k race in the #AIMtoWIN 45k Challenge will be the Merseyvend Halewood 5k.

The Knowsley harriers AC have been putting on a free 5k monthly race since  2012.  The aim is to give runners of all abilities the opportunity to test themselves over the 5k distance in a fully licensed race over an accurately measured course. The race is held over a super fast, flat all tarmac surface with PB potential. There is parking, secure baggage storage, toilets, indoor registration and a same day comprehensive on line results service. The race continues to receive praise for its fast course, organisation and friendliness.
